Dining Room Makeover

Finally after a few hiccups, (having to take two trips to Ikea for furniture, finding the table had a crack so went back to Ikea for the third time, and the time it took to put everything together) we have a dining room! And a great looking one at that. So I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
Just for a quick reminder, here is the before:

When we first moved in we painted the walls this light blue color. With my luck of not being able to pick the right color EVER, we ended up with this color. It probably didn't help that we had no furniture in the room so it was just a big blue blob, but I was sick of the color. We also just put random pictures and painting on the wall hoping to cover it up, but in the end it just made it look even worse (in my opinion).

And here is the wonderful after:

This is the view from the family room, looking towards the front door. We painted the walls a soft gray/silver color which I'm loving and hung some beautiful flowing white curtains.

And here is the much anticipated dining room furniture. One thing Mr. Hunt and I learned was that our dining room wasn't as big as we thought. With an empty room for over a year, the room seemed to be so big, but after many measurements, we learned that even a regular dining room table from the big box stores wouldn't fit in our space. We were glad to find this table at Ikea with the dark wood to match the couch and coffee table in the same room. It has one leaf that can be inserted to fit two more chairs, but while it is just sitting there looking pretty, we have it on the small setting! The china cabinet(s) (its actually two just standing next to each other) are a great brown/grey color which I think looks really good next to the wall color and it ties in with the sideboard/buffet.

This view is of the whole "dining room" from the "living room" (even tough it is technically one big room). You can now see the sideboard that matches the china cabinet and the entrance into the family room. I created a small seating area with the extra two chairs which actually works out because they are almost right in front of the couch so if we ever have game night in there, we actually have more seating now instead of stashing the chairs away in storage until we needed them at the table.

Here is a look from the couch.

*Please don't mind the paint cans, I couldn't wait to take pictures*
This is to show the new paint color of the stairs and the loft that match pretty well with the grey. I was a little nervous about this move, but it was the only option. Of course this section of the entrance of the house needs some work, its looking pretty plain right now.

This is what you see right when you walk in the front door. A MUCH better look than what we had before.

Somehow our couch looks better in the new room. Isn't it funny what a little sprucing up can do? Sorry for the funny light glare on the couch.

Of course we still have a lot left to do like:
Get two area rugs to define the dining area and the seating area
Hang something on the bare walls
Spruce up the entrance
Add some pops of yellow in the rugs and pillows on the couch.

My original idea of the room was to go with grey and yellow with the yellow tying in with the family room and kitchen. I haven't got anything yellow yet, but I will be sure to update when I do. As far as I'm concerned, the room is only 75% done and it already looks 100% better!

Love,
Jen
