I can't believe this little guy is already ONE MONTH old! I have a funny feeling, his first year will be going by a lot faster than Jane's did (and hers went fast too). As you can see, I did the same sort of photo shoot for one month that I did with Jane. I debated doing something totally different with him, but then I remembered how easy this little sticker on the shirt is. Also, I think it would be fun to put them side by side as the months go to see the differences.
I also want to say really quick that when I "compare" them (either here in the monthly updates or anytime), Im not comparing to see who is better, or who did what first. I just think it is fun to see what is similar and different in their looks. As far as milestones, I only have one other child so I don't know when certain things are supposed to happen, I think it is interesting how different each child can be....anyway, onto Jackson's one month update.
- Week one and two were great with breastfeeding. My milk came in great and he nursed great, minus the soreness, we were doing good
- He loves having his hands in or near his face. Sometimes it was hard to get him to latch on because his hands were always right there. I also wasn't sure if he would enjoy being swaddled with his hands down, but he doesnt seem to mind it right now.
- He loves to suck. Even after breastfeeding, he would want to suck on something so we introduced the paci right away. He also sucked his thumb on day one and a few days later found his finger and sucked on that.
- He is very smiley! After he eats, he always smiles about 4 or 5 times. Its the cutest thing, even if its gas related!
- Jane is doing great with him. She loves putting his paci in and talking to him. She also loves holding him
- He met his Nana, Mimi, Papa, and Jane on day one. They all came to the hospital to see and meet him
- He met Uncle Dylan and Aunt Jenn on day two when we got home from the hospital
- He met Great Grandma, Pappy, and Uncle Dave on day three.
- River and Hannah are doing great with him so far. They don't seem to pay attention to him at all, just wait until he is mobile
- He poops a lot, but what newborn doesn't?
- Appointment on May 4st: 7lbs 14oz (55th percentile) 20.5 inches long (77th percentile) 13.5 inches around head (30th percentile)
- Had his first sponge bath on May 11th.
- Umbilical cord fell off May 12th
- Celebrated our first Mother's Day together on May 10th
- Met Uncle Mike and Aunt Rachel on May 10th
- Had his first real outing (besides newborn photo shoot and doctor appointment) on May 10th to East Bay Deli for Mother's Day
- He started to refuse to latch on May 10th. Had to pump for the first time and give him a bottle. Since then he hasn't wanted to latch on
- Ive been exclusively pumping since then now. I tried a few more times to latch him on, but he cries and fusses.
- First professional photoshoot at one week old (May 7th). He pooped and peed on the photographer more than she had ever been pooped or peed on in one session! Yikes!
- He folded his hands!
- He has a very strong neck and already tries to look around a lot
- First stroller ride in the new double stroller on May 13th
- He drinks every 3 hours about 3-4oz each time
- Around week 3 he started to be more alert during his wake times and his wake times were longer periods of time
- On May 15th we changed him to size one diapers. The newborn size still fit, but we ran out and had the ones on hand. He fit the size description so we tried them and didn't go back
- He laid/played on his activity mat for the first time on May 18th
- He did tummy time for the first time on May 18th. He didn't cry or fuss but fell asleep quickly
- May 18th appointment: 9lbs (55th percentile) 21 inches long (61st percentile) 14.25 inches around head (48th percentile)
- We took our first overnight trip as a family of four (plus two dogs). We went took Beaufort on May 22nd
- He saw the ocean for the first time there
- He went to Bluffton for the firs time on May 24th
- Met Charlie (my family's dog)
- He seems to be very gassy
- Still in newborn size clothes but they are getting small especially length wise
- Towards the end of the month he was drinking every 3 hours still but more like 3-5oz each time
- He loves having his head rubbed. It helps to put him to sleep at night
- Trying to figure out if he has silent reflux. He seems to have a lot of the symptoms. We are also trying different bottles to see if that helps too!
Here is Jackson's and Jane's one month picture side by side. I don't think they look that similar in these (despite looking identical in other pictures). Also Jane is so much smaller (this is when we were struggling with breastfeeding!).
Jackson,
We are so blessed to have you here with our family. Jane loves you so much and so do mommy and daddy. You have been such a great baby so far with sleeping and eating and hardly ever crying. We can't wait to see how you grow up into a cute little boy.
Love,
Mommy!
